The council unanimously approved Resolution 23-39 to submit a Southeast Crescent Regional Commission SEID grant application for up to $500,000 to fund low-pressure pump stations to provide gravity sewer to as many as 60 lots in North Henderson; the grant requires a 20% local match.
The Henderson City Council unanimously approved Resolution 23-39 on Nov. 13 to submit a formal application to the Southeast Crescent Regional Commission SEID Grant Program for up to $500,000 to install low-pressure pump stations serving parts of North Henderson.
City Manager Edward T. Blackmon said the grant program stems from a 2008 federal agriculture-related initiative and that the city’s pre-application was successful. The project, described by Blackmon, would install low-pressure pump stations intended to provide gravity sewer to as many as 60 lots in North Henderson and would address existing inflow and infiltration issues in the Sandy Creek Basin area. The grant requires a 20% local match; staff said the city is considering using a special allocation received from the North Carolina General Assembly for water and sewer to meet that match.
Councilmember Melissa Elliott moved to approve the resolution; Councilmember D. Michael Rainey seconded. The motion passed unanimously with Councilmembers Marion B. Williams, D. Michael Rainey, Melissa Elliott, Garry D. Daeke, and Ola Thorpe-Cooper and Mayor Eddie Ellington present; Sara M. Coffey, Lamont Noel, and Jason Spriggs were recorded absent.
The Public Works Committee recommended submitting the application to the Committee of the Whole for further consideration and any required local match budgeting. The council’s approval authorizes staff to proceed with the formal application process and to pursue the matching funds as proposed.
