Council creates police IT specialist position and approves $10,000 equipment transfer

The Henderson City Council approved Resolution 24-16 to reallocate two vacant positions and create a Police Information Technology Specialist within the department’s rank structure.
City Manager Edward T. Blackmon explained the reallocation approach and asked Police Chief Marcus Barrow to outline the need. Chief Barrow said the department is overwhelmed by a growing array of systems and databases and needs dedicated IT support to maintain systems and support field personnel. Councilmember Garry D. Daeke moved approval; Councilmember Geraldine Champion seconded, and the reallocation was approved unanimously.
The council also approved Ordinance 24-05 to transfer $10,000 of Federal Asset Forfeiture funds to a capital outlay account for IT equipment to support the new position. Chief Barrow said the money will fund necessary hardware to sustain communications and databases used by officers.
Both the personnel reallocation and the equipment transfer were approved and recorded in the council’s resolutions and ordinance books.
