Council tables proposal to create City-run Main Street Advisory Board

City Manager Edward T. Blackmon proposed forming a City of Henderson Main Street Advisory Board to strengthen municipal control over the Main Street program and ensure compliance with National Main Street assessment requirements. Blackmon and Downtown Development Manager Tracy Madigan explained that while the Downtown Development Commission (DDC) has helped meet Main Street requirements, the DDC operates as a separate 501(c)(3), and the city’s hybrid arrangement is unusual.
Madigan said some DDC committees have been uneven in their success and that a city-run advisory board would help focus efforts and preserve the city’s Main Street status. Councilmember Garry D. Daeke asked for a detailed description of the proposed advisory board’s role. Councilmember Daeke moved to table Resolution 24-24 until staff provides a description; the motion was seconded by Councilmember Sara Coffey and passed unanimously.
The item was tabled without adoption; staff will return with a description of the board’s duties and membership.
