Commission approves liability coverage increase, job descriptions and certifies road mileage; budgets reviewed

Steele County commissioners on June 6 unanimously approved a set of administrative actions including increasing county liability coverage to $3,000,000 and approving job descriptions for the road department.
Emergency Manager Ben Gates provided an office update and reported 2017 grant-funded security improvements (door access controls, panic buttons and cameras) that are expected to be 100% reimbursable, with grant reimbursements estimated at about $10,000. Gates raised a previously tabled request for salary adjustments in his office; the commission voted to table salary adjustments and asked that all salaries be reviewed during the budgeting process.
The commission approved job descriptions for the Road Superintendent deputy and for seasonal help. Auditor Emily Wigen presented office updates including upcoming ballots for the June 12 election, July employee performance reviews and the July 10 commission meeting date; she also reviewed 2019 budgets and said she would calculate and present estimated levy and mills at the July meeting. The commission approved and signed the 2018 Road mileage certification for townships.
