The King and Queen County Board of Supervisors adopted a proclamation declaring October Domestic Violence Awareness Month on Oct. 10 after representatives of Thrive Virginia provided an overview of services and local usage figures.
Thrive representatives told the board that, in 2023 to date, 17 adults and 15 children from King and Queen had accessed domestic violence services. The proclamation, moved by Ms. Alsop and seconded by Mr. Simpkins, passed unanimously on the record with Supervisors Alsop, Simpkins and Burns voting aye and Supervisors Morris and Bailey absent.
Board members and staff emphasized community coordination and urged citizens to learn about and support local prevention and advocacy organizations. The proclamation calls on residents to support organizations and individuals who provide advocacy, services and assistance to victims.
