Henderson City Council revises 2024 meeting schedule, plans April 8 presentation at McGregor Hall

Henderson City Council on March 28 unanimously approved Resolution 24-26 to revise and re-adopt its 2024 meeting schedule and allow the April 8 meeting to be held at McGregor Hall for a presentation by the facility’s director.
City Manager Edward T. Blackmon told the Council that Mark Hopper, director of McGregor Hall, requested the April 8 slot to discuss how the facility is being used and the possibilities it holds for the community, and that attendees should be prepared for a potential funding request. Blackmon also clarified that, under the open meetings law, the Council must file and post a revised schedule at least seven days before the first meeting that uses the new schedule if it changes the meeting location.
Mayor Pro Tem Garry Daeke, who presided over the special called meeting, said he had been part of prior discussions with Hopper and the mayor and emphasized McGregor Hall’s cultural and economic potential for Henderson City. "He is hopeful it will be an informative evening for Council and citizens and that it will generate interest in the City’s activities," the minutes record.
Councilmember Tami Walker moved to approve Resolution 24-26; Councilmember Geraldine Champion seconded. The motion passed unanimously among members present: Mayor Pro Tem Garry Daeke and Councilmembers Geraldine Champion, Sam Seifert, Michael Venable and Tami Walker. Absent were Mayor Melissa Elliott and Councilmembers Sara M. Coffey, Lamont Noel and Ola Thorpe-Cooper.
The special called meeting was convened at 12:50 p.m. and adjourned at 12:56 p.m. The minutes reference CAF 24-37 and Resolution 24-26 (see Resolution Book 7) for the formal record of the change. The April 8 meeting at McGregor Hall is scheduled to include a presentation by Hopper; any formal funding request would follow Council discussion and proper agenda and public-notice procedures.
Next procedural step: if the Council changes the meeting location as adopted, staff must file and publicly post the revised schedule at least seven days before the first meeting held under that schedule, per the clarification provided by the City Manager.
