The Camp Verde council voted March 5 to authorize town staff to take all necessary steps to address a property declared a public nuisance and unsafe for occupancy at 3195 S. Dinky Creek Drive, including filing litigation to obtain a demolition order, using public funds for abatement and placing a lien on the property to recover costs.
Town Manager Miranda Fisher told the council the structure had been posted UNSAFE—DO NOT OCCUPY on Feb. 22, 2023, and despite multiple notices the owner had not completed corrective actions. The Building Official had concluded the property was a danger to health, life and safety, the minutes state.
Public commenter Melinda Jessop addressed the council regarding the property. Council sought confirmation that staff had followed required steps; Town Manager Fisher and Town Attorney Trish Stuhan responded that proper procedures had been followed and recommended authorization to proceed. Council approved the enforcement actions 6-0 with Councilor Jessie Murdock absent.
The authorization allows staff to pursue litigation and immediate abatement funded by the town if necessary, with costs to be recovered by placing a lien on the property. Staff did not provide a timeline for abatement in the meeting minutes; follow-up is expected as staff pursues legal remedies.
