Sheriff announces retirement of HIDTA K9 Latek and introduction of new dog Milo

Sheriff Ronny Dodson asked the court to retire HIDTA K9 Latek to Sgt. Chris Roach and to approve Milo as the new HIDTA drug dog; both requests were approved by the commissioners 5-0.
Sheriff Ronny Dodson told the Brewster County Commissioners Court on Feb. 24 that the county’s current HIDTA K9, Latek, would be retired into the permanent custody of Sgt. Chris Roach and that a new HIDTA K9, Milo, would replace Latek on drug-enforcement duties.
Commissioner Sara Allen Colando moved to approve retiring Latek to Sgt. Chris Roach; Commissioner Ruben Ortega seconded and the motion passed 5-0. Commissioner Ortega then moved to approve Milo as the HIDTA drug dog; Commissioner William “Mo” Morrow seconded and that motion passed 5-0.
The court recorded the transfers and approvals on the public record; the motion language specified Latek would remain with Sgt. Roach for the rest of the dog’s life. The Sheriff’s Office will manage any follow-up tasks related to the K9 transition.
