Wapello County supervisors approve new fee schedule, contracts and hires; set March 24 tax-levy hearing

Wapello County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a slate of routine measures during a short session on March 10, 2026.
Vice Chair Carrie Teninty moved, seconded by Supervisor Bryan Ziegler, to adopt Resolution 3-2026, a new fee schedule for unincorporated areas of Wapello County; the board voted "all ayes" and the motion carried. The board also approved the Recorder’s copier maintenance agreement for 2026–2027 and the Treasurer’s Motor Vehicle Office copier maintenance contract on motions moved by Teninty and seconded by Ziegler, each passing unanimously.
The board authorized Resolution 4-2026 to effect the quarterly transfer to the Secondary Roads Fund by the same unanimous vote. Supervisor Bryan Ziegler moved, seconded by Vice Chair Teninty, to set a public hearing on the proposed property tax levy for March 24, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.; the board approved the date and time.
On personnel and finance items, Vice Chair Teninty moved, seconded by Supervisor Ziegler, to approve payroll and to hire Jordan Staton as a full-time deputy sheriff effective March 16, 2026, at a pay rate of $40.75 per hour. The board approved claims totaling $241,059.12 and $500.00 and payroll amounting to $479,285.56 for the March 6, 2026 period. The meeting adjourned at 9:53 a.m., and the minutes were attested by Auditor Kelly Spurgeon and Chair Darren Batterson.
