Commission approves 2026 road list, names bridge and OKs courthouse roof replacement

Cheatham County commissioners on Feb. 2 approved the 2026 Road List, authorized capital work on county properties and approved two commemorative naming actions from the Road & Bridge Committee.
Road & Bridge reported changes to the 2025 road list and commissioners approved the 2026 Road List by voice vote (see Resolution 13). Capital Improvements recommended and the commission approved replacement of the Historic Courthouse shingle roof for $21,924 (Resolution 14).
The Road & Bridge Committee also recommended naming the Sycamore Creek Bridge on Chapmansboro Road the “Sheriff John Holder Bridge” and placing a sign on Neptune Road honoring Eugene “Newt” Fambrough, a 40-year road-department employee and Iwo Jima survivor; both recognitions were approved by voice vote and are recorded as Resolutions 16 and 17.
The committee discussed a safety request for a turning lane at Cheatham County Central High School and asked Road Superintendent Robert Binkley to coordinate with the Tennessee Department of Transportation on a traffic study.
