Cheatham County commissioners on Feb. 2 approved multiple budget amendments affecting the County General Fund and the Highway/Public Works Fund and created a dedicated reserve for unused donated event funds for the Sheriff’s Department.
The Budget Committee presented transfers and appropriations that move modest sums among lines: Register of Deeds ($2,509.77 for office equipment), multiple allocations for jail supplies and equipment, sheriff’s payroll funded by a recruiting and retention grant ($9,500), election commission training ($305.50), building consultant/legal charges ($20,000), and Human Resources payout ($7,373.85). Commissioners also authorized Highway/Public Works capital outlay of $64,100, funded by proceeds from sale of equipment.
The commission created a reserve titled “Unused Donations for Events” (account 101-34625-08) to hold donated funds for later public-safety use and approved moving forward with minimum bids on county tax-sale properties.
Why it matters: the amendments reallocate existing funds and set up a dedicated reserve to track donations for sheriff events. The highway capital purchase is explicitly funded by sale proceeds rather than new tax revenue.
Votes and implementation: the budget and reserve actions were approved by roll-call vote (9–0) and are recorded in Resolutions 7–9. County departments were assigned to implement the transfers and follow up where required.
