Benton County Commission approves slate of routine appointments and budget resolutions including $130,000 for TRRD obligations

At its Feb. 17 meeting, the Benton County Commission approved a series of resolutions covering board appointments, budget adjustments and capital needs.
Appointments and notaries: The commission reappointed Tommy Bain and appointed John Melton and Phil Melton to the Benton County Agricultural Extension Committee (Resolutions 20260217-01, -02 and -03). Sonny Hall was appointed to the Benton County Civil Service Board (20260217-04) and Raquel Bongiovanni was appointed to the Benton County Animal Shelter Board (20260217-05). Pamela Lynn Bygden and Loisann Renee Abbott were approved as notaries.
Budget and grants: The commission budgeted $6,225 received from the City of Camden into the library budget (Res. 20260217-06), and Mayor Mark Ward moved and the commission approved a $20,000 appropriation (Res. 20260217-11) to fund library computers; the minutes note the computer purchase is 50% reimbursable by grant. The sheriff’s office budget was adjusted to add $1,035 in refunds (Res. 20260217-07), an $800 State of Tennessee SRO salary supplement (Res. 20260217-08), $410.10 in insurance recovery for vehicle repairs (Res. 20260217-09) and a $15,000 TLETA cost-sharing grant to cover officer training overtime (Res. 20260217-10).
Other appropriations: The commission approved a $130,000 appropriation to cover outstanding obligations of the Tennessee River Resort District (Res. 20260217-12). The Budget Committee brought forward two capital items for the Benton County Sports Complex: $7,500 for drainage repairs (Res. 20260217-13) and $9,804 to replace backflow valves (Res. 20260217-14). All resolutions listed above were recorded as passed in the meeting minutes; most roll-call votes are recorded as 16 ayes, 0 no and 2 absent, with limited exceptions noted in the minutes (for example, Res. 20260217-03 shows 15 ayes and 1 pass).
