Camp Verde council approves RFPs for general and water-resource legal services

Camp Verde councilors on Jan. 15 approved publication of two requests for proposals as part of a planned review of legal services ahead of the FY25-26 budget cycle.
Town Manager Miranda Fisher told the council staff should evaluate current legal-service arrangements to ensure adequate support; she recommended publishing an RFP for general legal services and a separate RFP for water-resources legal counsel. Councilor Jessie Murdock moved to publish RFP #2025-202 for legal services; Councilor Wendy Escoffier seconded and the council approved that RFP by unanimous roll call, 7-0.
On a separate motion, Councilor Wendy Escoffier moved to publish RFP #2025-203 for water-resources legal services; Councilor Robin Godwin seconded. Vice Mayor Marie Moore emphasized the importance of hiring a highly qualified water attorney; public commenter Tony Gioia said he was satisfied with the council's attention to legal matters. The motion to publish passed unanimously, 7-0.
What this means: staff will accept proposals and return to council with a shortlist and interviews before selecting legal-service providers. Vice Mayor Moore requested the legal-services expense be shown as a separate line item in the proposed town budget.
