A group of residents and civic activists urged the Hudson County Board to publish meeting minutes online and to offer meetings in a hybrid or video format to increase public participation.
Mark Bloomberg told commissioners he appreciated a recent video hearing and asked the county to make meeting minutes available online so residents wouldn’t have to file public‑records requests. "Work schedules, parenting duties, travel time, disability, limited street parking — those are just some of the reasons why a video offering would benefit many County residents," Bloomberg said.
Commissioner William O'Dea and others agreed that posting minutes online is a straightforward first step and proposed making meetings viewable by video as an initial measure, with a subsequent discussion about how and whether remote viewers may be allowed to speak. Commissioner Albert Cifelli noted prior experience with unregulated remote participation that extended meetings and suggested time or participation limits may be necessary.
The board asked administration to follow up and to prepare options for publishing minutes and for offering video access.
