Hudson County proclaims January as Muslim Heritage Month; community leaders plan local events

The Hudson County Board of County Commissioners presented a proclamation recognizing Muslim Heritage Month during its Jan. 23 meeting. The board asked honored community members to come forward for a group presentation; Arjumand Juweria accepted the proclamation and addressed the chamber.
"My name is Arjumand Juweria. I'm a pharmacist by profession and a dedicated community activist," Juweria said. She thanked county leaders and said the proclamation was "a powerful affirmation of the rich cultural heritage, contributions and values that the Muslim community brings to our diverse society." Juweria described outreach to Hudson County mayors and councils across 12 municipalities and said she planned events at Dickinson School and Hudson County Community College and additional programs at libraries and universities next year.
Commissioners encouraged Juweria to share event details with the clerk so the county can distribute them to commissioners. The honorees offered light refreshments after the meeting.
