Hudson County commissioners appoint Anthony Romano chair, Jerry Walker vice chair for 2025

The Hudson County Board of County Commissioners on Jan. 2 appointed Commissioner Anthony Romano as Chairperson for 2025 and Commissioner Jerry Walker as Vice Chair at its annual reorganization meeting in Jersey City.
Romano was nominated by Commissioner Robert Baselice and seconded by Commissioner Kenneth Kopacz, and the board voted unanimously to appoint him. After being sworn in Romano thanked his colleagues and staff, saying the job “couldn't be done without them” and that “it's never an 'I' or 'me.' It's always a 'we.'”
The appointments set the board's leadership for the calendar year and were followed by several customary designations. Commissioner Fanny Cedeño was appointed Chairperson Pro Tempore after a unanimous vote; Commissioners also designated Jerry Walker as the board's voting member to the New Jersey Association of Counties, Robert Baselice as the alternate voting member and Abraham (Abe) Antun as second alternate.
Board members and the chairman recognized department directors and staff in attendance, and Cedeño thanked her colleagues and noted that Surrogate Tilo Rivas administered her oath. Vice Chair Walker, after being sworn, offered a brief, lighthearted remark about the chamber flag during the Pledge of Allegiance: “Given the fact I'm so tall, when we do the Pledge of Allegiance, could we move the flag over? Because I feel uncomfortable.”
The votes on leadership and delegation appointments were recorded by the clerk. The reorganization business also included routine administrative items and scheduling for 2025 before the meeting moved to finance matters and other resolutions.
The board adjourned at 4:38 p.m.
