Lunenburg planning commission elects leadership, adopts bylaws and discusses study/pause

At its Jan. 4, 2024 meeting, the Lunenburg County Planning Commission elected Commissioner James Tharpe as chairman and Commissioner Thompson as vice-chair, adopting those appointments by unanimous vote of members present. The commission also adopted amended bylaws and approved the minutes of its Dec. 7, 2023 meeting, each action passing unanimously.
Clerk Taylor N. King conducted roll call; Commissioners Garrett, Jennings, Pennington, Tharpe, Thompson and Trent were present, while Commissioners Drummond and Shell were absent. Assistant County Attorney Drew DiStanislao provided an attorney update, saying the committee's intended approach to a study/pause will align proposed amendments with the Joint Comprehensive Plan Update. Chairman Tharpe briefly updated the body on information from the Rural Solar Development Coalition.
The commission announced its next meeting for Feb. 1, 2024, and adjourned on a motion by Commissioner Thompson seconded by Chairman Tharpe.
Actions taken at the meeting — leadership appointments, bylaw adoption and minutes approval — were unanimous among those present. No public commenters addressed the commission during Citizen Time.
