Planning Commission recommends approval of Parham’s Stop convenience store CUP

The Lunenburg County Planning Commission on Jan. 5 unanimously recommended the Board of Supervisors approve Conditional Use Permit 7‑22 for Mayank Patel to operate a convenience store known as Parham’s Stop at 2087 South Hill Road in Kenbridge.
The recommendation follows a public hearing during which Patel said he intends to continue the existing business, will commute from Richmond and will employ local residents. "I want to continue with business," Patel said during the hearing. The Commission discussed a soil report dated Sept. 9, 2022 that was addressed to the previous business name, Parham’s Grocery; Patel explained the DEQ report had been completed under the earlier name.
The application covers a 2.05‑acre parcel in an A‑1 Agricultural zone (parcel 081‑0A‑0‑56). Clerk Taylor N. Newton read staff conditions from the packet and the Commission voted to recommend approval "with the conditions noted in the staff report," Commissioner Thompson moved and Commissioner Shell seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
The recommendation now goes to the Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors for final action at a future meeting. The staff report and conditions accompany the referral; the Commission did not amend the staff conditions beyond those listed in the packet.
Next steps: the Board of Supervisors will consider the CUP at its February meeting, at which the public may comment and members may vote to approve, modify or deny the permit.
