The Tarrant City Council met Monday, Feb. 2, 2026, at Tarrant City Hall and handled a mix of routine approvals and policy items before adjourning at 7:08 p.m.
Mayor Tracie B. Threadford opened the meeting at 6:30 p.m., led roll call and announcements, and relayed upcoming community events including a Feb. 18 public presentation hosted by the Greater Alliance to Stop Pollution (GASP).
The council approved a consent agenda that included Resolutions No. 9377, 9378, 9379 and 9381 after a motion by Councilor John T. “Tommy” Bryant and a second from Councilor Valarie McClellan. The minutes record the consent agenda motion as carried by the council.
In new business Councilor Bryant introduced Ordinance 1171, a first reading that would prohibit use of engine compression brakes within the city’s corporate limits. Councilors discussed adding four informational signs in various locations to notify drivers and suggested limiting the ordinance’s restrictions to Highway 79 and adjacent business access ways. The item was at first reading only; no final vote was recorded.
Mayor Threadford moved to table Resolution No. 9380, which would have authorized conveyance of city-owned property at 2518 and 2538 Commerce Way to the lessee(s) under a 2016 commercial lease and option. The record references a 2016 Commercial Lease Agreement and a Jan. 14, 2026 letter from Aurora Management Partners, Inc., acting as receiver, notifying the city of an intent to exercise a purchase option. Councilor Bryant seconded the motion to table; the motion carried.
The council reviewed and approved city vouchers and expenses for the week ending Feb. 2, 2026 after a motion by Councilor Bryant and a second by Councilor McClellan.
During public comments, Tommy Weaver, identified as a Tarrant property owner, described damage to the public sidewalk in front of his property that he said may result from stormwater runoff; Public Works Assistant Director Dedrick Browder explained constraints that prevent immediate repair. Barbara Johnson, representing the Greater Alliance to Stop Pollution, announced a community presentation on Feb. 18. Another commenter identified as Mr. Johnson urged the council to consider ideas for lowering electrical bills for residents. Ms. Sidney spoke about cooperation and the need for time and collaboration on community issues.
The meeting adjourned at 7:08 p.m. The minutes were prepared and certified by City Clerk Dr. Laverne Knight.
