TARRANT — The Tarrant City Council on Jan. 5 approved several routine items, including a revised textile rental agreement with ALSCO Linen and Uniform Rental Service and city vouchers for the period ending Jan. 2, 2026.
Mayor Tracie B. Threadford opened the meeting at 6:32 p.m. after a prayer led by Rev. Leon Wright and the pledge of allegiance. The council unanimously agreed to allow City Attorney Michael Brymer to act as clerk for the meeting while the regular clerk was returning from travel.
Under old business the council adopted Resolution No. 9351 authorizing the city to enter into a textile rental agreement with ALSCO. Council discussion confirmed the contract term is 24 consecutive months — not the 60 months previously referenced — and that the discounts and pricing are as reflected in Schedule A of the service agreement. The motion to adopt was moved by Councilor John T. "Tommy" Bryant, seconded by Councilor Valarie McClellan, and carried unanimously.
The council also approved vouchers and expenses as presented for the period ending Jan. 2, 2026, following a motion by Councilor Bryant and second by Councilor McClellan. That motion passed 6-0.
In other business the council moved to indefinitely table Resolution No. 9375, which would have appointed Mischelle Lewis to the Tarrant Alabama Housing Authority; Mayor Threadford said applications for that board position will be available at City Hall and the application deadline is Jan. 31, 2026, after which the council will consider applicants.
The council also adopted Resolution No. 9376 declaring January 2026 Human Trafficking Prevention Month. The motion to adopt the proclamation passed without opposition.
