At its Jan. 13 meeting the Chickasaw City Council approved several administrative and procurement items and voted to begin a business-license revocation process. Councilmember Kathy Couey moved to purchase a police vehicle for $53,314 using funds held by the court; Councilmember Jim Hanson seconded and the motion passed by voice vote with Councilmembers Ken Sterrett, Kathy Couey, Tyran Colvin, Jim Trout and Jim Hanson recorded as AYE.
Councilmember Jim Trout moved and Councilmember Kathy Couey seconded approval for City Clerk Michelle Ross to attend the Government Finance Officers Association of Alabama conference at a cost of $475. That motion also passed by unanimous voice vote. The council placed accounts payable totaling $641,527.33 in line for payment after a motion from Councilmember Jim Trout and a second from Councilmember Jim Hanson; the record shows $451,500 of that total originated as a GOMESA grant payment.
Councilmember Jim Trout moved to initiate the process to revoke the business license for MStar/Gulf Coast Hotel; Councilmember Kathy Couey seconded. The council voted to begin the revocation process, which the council noted requires a subsequent public hearing. City Attorney Nash Campbell was assigned to begin the legal process for the revocation.
All procedural motions were adopted by voice vote with five affirmative votes recorded and no NAY votes. The actions are recorded as routine municipal administration: equipment procurement and training approvals, accounts-payable processing, and the opening of a license revocation process that will include a public hearing.
