Board designates county EDA as Destination Marketing Organization to pursue state tourism support

The King and Queen County Board voted Aug. 14 to petition the Virginia Tourism Corporation to recognize the county’s Economic Development Authority (EDA) as the designated Destination Marketing Organization (DMO).
Economic Development Director Kelly Evko introduced Laura Messer, Destination Manager with the Virginia Tourism Corporation, who outlined tourism’s fiscal impact in King and Queen County and described the DMO designation process and the partner opportunities and grant eligibility that designation opens. The Board adopted a resolution directing the county to petition the Virginia Tourism Corporation and authorized the EDA or its designee to act as the chief liaison for the DMO effort. The motion was made by J. M. Burns and seconded by S. C. Alsop and carried unanimously.
