The King and Queen County Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution on May 22 recognizing the service of Rory “Bud” Swanson, a volunteer with Lower King and Queen Fire/EMS for more than 15 years who died in a fundraising accident.
Deputy Chief Monty Willaford requested the resolution during the meeting, noting National EMS Week’s theme, “Where Emergency Care Begins,” and asking the board to recognize both Swanson’s service and EMS Week. Ms. S.C. Alsop and Mr. J.M. Burns each spoke in praise of Swanson’s commitment; Chairman Russell F. Bailey Jr. presented the adopted resolution to Chief Bristow of Lower King and Queen Volunteer Fire Department.
Ms. Alsop moved to adopt the resolution and Mr. Burns seconded. The minutes record the vote as AYES: J.L. Simpkins, R.F. Bailey, S.C. Alsop, J.M. Burns; NAYS: none; ABSENT: D.H. Morris. The board also adopted, by separate motion, a resolution recognizing National EMS Week.
The resolutions commend volunteer service and formally acknowledge EMS volunteers’ work; the board did not attach new funding or operational directives in the motions recorded in the minutes.
