On July 8, 2024, the Henderson City Council approved Ordinance 24-12, adopting a newly codified City Code intended to bring the local ordinances into compliance with current North Carolina General Statutes. The vote was unanimous; Councilmember Lamont Noel was absent.
City Manager Edward T. Blackmon said the recodification project that began in 2022 is complete. He clarified that any local ordinances approved after August 2022 will not be included in the initial codification but will be added later. The Code will be made available to the public on Municode's website.
Councilmember Sam Seifert asked how soon the new Code would appear online; City Clerk Tracey Kimbrell responded the Code should be available as soon as the Mayor signs the ordinance, the Clerk attests the document, and a certified copy is emailed to Civic Plus (Municode).
Councilmember Michael Venable moved approval of Ordinance 24-12; Councilmember Geraldine Champion seconded the motion. The ordinance was recorded (See Ordinance Book 10).
Next steps: the Mayor's signature and Clerk's attestation will be completed and the certified copy will be forwarded to Civic Plus for online publication.
