Public hearings reiterate proposed Chattahoochee County millage rate of 8.512 mills; adoption scheduled for upcoming meeting

Cusseta‑Chattahoochee County held two public hearings on the proposed 2024 millage rate: a called hearing on Aug. 19 and a second hearing on Aug. 26. Chairman Charles Coffey and County Manager Thomas Weaver said the county’s proposed rate would remain at 8.512 mills, effectively the same as the prior year. Coffey noted the county’s gross tax digest increased by roughly $64 million and that the digest and five‑year history are public records.
No members of the public attended to speak in either hearing. At the Aug. 26 work session, commissioners directed staff to include adoption of the 8.512 millage rate on the Sept. 3 regular‑meeting agenda for formal action.
County officials also referenced the school millage of 17.30 mills when discussing the overall tax burden and encouraged residents to review the digest materials on file with the tax assessor’s office.
Next steps: the commission scheduled the millage adoption for the next regular meeting, and other work‑session items related to budgeting and grants will be considered alongside final rate adoption.
