Neighbor objects as Spillers seek conditional-use permit to place mobile home on 15 acres

Brandi and Phillip Spillers appeared at a May 27 public hearing before the Cusseta–Chattahoochee County commission seeking a conditional-use permit to place a primary mobile home on 15 acres at 410 Firetower Road.
Planning and Zoning had sent a letter recommending approval, and the applicants told the board they wanted to site a singlewide mobile home on a concrete slab because they could not afford to build a house now. "We cannot afford to build a house; it is cheaper to place a mobile home," the applicant said, and added that his wife works from home and they wanted to move for family and community reasons.
Neighbor Mark Henson, who said he lives at 455 Firetower Road, opposed placing a mobile home on the parcel, arguing that "mobile homes depreciate, and when they get vacant and abandoned it makes the county look ugly." The chair said he had received a text from another adjoining property owner concerned about CUVA restrictions on nearby land but that person did not appear to speak at the hearing.
After testimony the board adjourned the public hearing; the work session minutes state the Spillers conditional-use permit will be placed on the June 3 regular meeting agenda for a vote (approve, deny or table). No final decision is recorded in the May 27 minutes.
