At a Jan. 27 work session, the Unified Government of Cusseta–Chattahoochee County discussed using existing LMIG funds to repair Friendship Road, changes to the conditional‑use permit (CUP) process, Planning & Zoning Board membership, SPLOST bank‑account management, and outreach related to HB581.
County Manager Thomas Weaver told commissioners he wants to use 2024 LMIG funds immediately to address rough conditions on Friendship Road; commissioners agreed. Weaver also proposed a deeper review of the county's CUP process, inviting the Planning & Zoning Board to a Feb. 24 evening work session to examine grey areas in the process and consider moving the Planning & Zoning board from seven members to five. Several reappointments to Planning & Zoning were added to the Feb. 4 regular meeting agenda.
Weaver flagged HB581 and said remaining opted‑in status benefits the county; he recommended preparing informational material and noted a special election on the sales tax question is likely in November. Department heads provided routine operational updates—parks and recreation staffing and seasons, water well repairs and hydrant work, increased stray‑dog reports, and pending water‑tower floor replacement in public works—and the manager advised staff follow up on road projects and locates for fiber work.
The work session ended after a closed session on legal, personnel and real‑estate matters; commissioners reconvened and recorded no votes were taken in closed session.
