County manager reports water-permit renewals, cemetery and road projects; EMS response-time noted

County Manager Thomas Weaver briefed commissioners on department activity and near-term infrastructure projects during the Jan. 26 work session.
Weaver said the water department completed four service-line repairs and a lid repair to well No. 3; permits for wells 2 and 3 are now current, which he said secures compliance for approximately the next 10 years. Weaver reported the county has contacted the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers about the dock project and that hand dryers were installed at the city park. He said the trail grant may be extended and could nearly double the project's length; lease or railroad issues involve Genesis Wyoming, which holds a lease for the track owned by GDOT.
Weaver outlined a shoulder project expected to begin in February and continue through spring; roads affected include Box Springs Road, the end of Fire Tower Road, Riverbend Road and a section of Highway 137. He also said a cemetery surveyor is close to finishing work and that the county expects to be able to sell plots approximately 60 days after completion.
On emergency medical services, Chairman Coffey relayed information from Johnny Floyd reporting that the average ambulance response time for 2025 was approximately nine minutes; the county includes mutual-aid responses from surrounding counties in that calculation.
Weaver said Georgia Power has an area manager seeking to schedule a public hearing at the recreation center to inform affected property owners about new transmission lines, and the county will assist with notification.
