Residents’ missed pickups prompt Fiscal Court to prepare RFP for waste collection

Simpson County Fiscal Court members expressed concerns about inconsistent residential trash service, saying some pickups take multiple days or are missed entirely. Magistrate Marty Chandler and other members said the court is willing to send the contract to bid to address those service problems.
Representatives of the current contractor, Scott Waste, including Sam Upperman, attended and told the court they are aware of the complaints and that customers are not charged for missed pickups and can seek reimbursement. The court agreed to approve bid specifications and a request for proposals at its March 3 meeting to solicit new bids or terms.
The court did not take final contract action at the Feb. 17 meeting; it scheduled the RFP approval for the next meeting.
