Highway department reports September spending, fuel sales and project updates

Marquette County Highway Department staff reviewed September financial and operational reports and updated the Highway Committee on ongoing projects.
Highway Accountant Brenda Petersen and staff reported RMA costs for September totaled $15,724, primarily for mowing and patrol supervision, leaving $71,264 remaining in the state's 2025 budget. DMA budgeted totals for 2025 were $931,500, of which $870,418 has been spent year-to-date. County costs for September were $210,851 with $197,292 in County Maintenance (largely sealcoating and mowing); winter maintenance costs were reported as $0. The department reported special county maintenance at $130, road construction $4,066 and overlay maintenance $8,639, leaving a 2025 county budget balance of $296,826.
Brian Trebiatowski reported townships had $174,746 of work in September (labor $47,538) while villages and the city had $2,055 of work. The department's labor splits were reported as County 57.87%, State 22.36%, Townships 18.74% and Interdepartmental 1.03%; only 29.78% of the department’s labor is charged to the County budget. Brian also reported fuel sales to other departments (4,366 gallons in September) and year-to-date fuel purchases of 102,792 gallons, with an average year-to-date price of $2.7311 for unleaded and $2.7543 for diesel.
On project updates Brian said paving at the salt dome replacement is complete though the doors are delayed; Causeway MLS fishing platforms, paved approaches and pavement markings are complete and the design firm is submitting the project for awards. The Richards Pit control house changeover is nearly complete but the plant is still awaiting a new AC pump and transformer for full line power transition. For local bridges, Crystal Lake Dover Bridge is complete, there is no movement on the Town of Montello railroad bridge, and staff are preparing an application for replacement of the CTH O over the Fox River Bridge with projected construction in 2028 or 2029 if the project is selected.
The committee did not take formal votes on the budget reports. Staff will proceed with scheduled LRIP committee meetings to select projects for the 2026/2027 program cycle and will continue to monitor expenditures.
