County finance director: VRS approves $100,000 LODA payment for firefighter Rory Swanson; board asked to schedule courthouse recognition

Tina Ammons, King and Queen County director of finance, told the Board on Feb. 27 that the Virginia Retirement System has approved a Line of Duty Act (LODA) claim filed for Rory Swanson. Ammons said $100,000 has been approved for Swanson’s beneficiaries and that payments are expected to go out by the end of March.
Greg Hunter said Mr. Swanson has been recognized on the National Fallen Firefighters and state memorials and requested the Board place a recognition item — a plaque to be installed in the courthouse — on the May agenda and invite volunteer agencies to attend if the Board approves.
The report to the Board was informational; no formal vote or appropriation for a plaque was taken at the Feb. 27 meeting.
