Board approves minutes and warrants, confirms appointments and hears administrator updates including new library and Telework Center groundbreaking

The King and Queen County Board of Supervisors approved routine minutes and financial items and took several personnel and administrative actions during its Feb. 12 regular meeting.
Early on the agenda the board approved the Jan. 8, 2024 minutes (motion by Ms. M.H. Norman, second Mr. M.R. Berry). Tina Ammons, the county’s director of finance, advised the board that Sheriff Balderson had requested approval of annual drug-investigation funds totaling $6,000. Ms. S.C. Alsop moved and Ms. C.R. Billups seconded approval of the county warrants and payroll for February, including the Sheriff’s drug-investigation funds request, subject to audit. The motion passed with recorded AYES from S.C. Alsop, J.L. Simpkins, M.R. Berry, M.H. Norman and C.R. Billups.
The board made a slate of appointments: reappointed Jill Hall to Tri River ASAP (term to Dec. 31, 2027); appointed Carolyn Billups as an alternate member to the Middle Peninsula Regional Airport Authority to replace Doris Morris; appointed Mac Bradely to fill an unexpired term on the Planning Commission (Stevensville District); reappointed Sherrin Alsop to the Council of Elected Officials for the Workforce Investment Board; and appointed Jackie Ammons to the Economic Development Authority (Shanghai District) to fill an unexpired term. The Board of Zoning Appeals appointment to fill Thomas Adkins’s unexpired term was tabled. All recorded appointment votes were unanimous where noted.
County Administrator Vivian Seay reported that the King and Queen Library opened that day, recording 64 visitors and issuance of 15 library cards; she said staff will use a locker system at the Via Center to distribute books to residents in the lower county once materials arrive. Seay also said staff is researching a possible property purchase adjacent to the high school, has invited representatives from Wilmot Modular Structures to the Feb. 26 meeting, and announced a Telework Center groundbreaking scheduled Feb. 20 at 2 p.m., followed by a stakeholder meeting at the airport. Seay also updated the board on pending General Assembly bills related to large-scale solar projects.
Ms. S.C. Alsop moved to adjourn at 9:10 p.m.; Ms. C.R. Billups seconded and the motion passed.
