King and Queen supervisors approve purchase of modular classrooms for elementary construction

Vivian Seay presented pricing and leasing versus purchase options from Wilmot and outlined financing choices laid out by Davenport, the county’s financial advisor. Davenport staff told the board the reimbursement resolution would allow the county to treat earlier purchases as project expenses if new financing is later authorized.
Mr. Burns moved to purchase the modular buildings; Mr. Simpkins seconded the motion. The motion passed with recorded votes in favor by Morris, Simpkins, Burns and Bailey; Sherrin Alsop was absent.
The board did not record specific dollar totals for the purchase in the meeting minutes; Seay presented multiple leasing and purchase options and indicated purchase would proceed only after the reimbursement resolution is adopted. The purchase is intended to provide classroom space while the elementary school construction is under way.
