King and Queen supervisors adopt resolutions honoring six longtime county officials

The King and Queen County Board of Supervisors adopted resolutions Feb. 12 recognizing six longtime public servants for their years of service to the county.
Chairman J.L. Simpkins read and presented resolutions for Robert Fraser, a long-serving Economic Development Authority director; Doris Morris, Stevensville District supervisor (2004–2023); Russell F. "Rusty" Bailey, Shanghai District supervisor (2012–2023); James "Jim" Burns, Buena Vista District supervisor (2016–2023); Irene Longest, County Treasurer (since Jan. 1, 2004); and Vanessa Porter, Clerk of the Circuit Court (retired Dec. 31, 2023) who worked in the clerk’s office for 26 years.
The resolutions note accomplishments ranging from regional emergency radio infrastructure and airport initiatives to completion of the county’s rural broadband program and professional certifications achieved by constitutional officers. Chairman Simpkins said the combined years of service by the honorees exceed 115 years and thanked them as role models.
The board’s recorded vote on adopting the resolutions was unanimous. The resolutions become part of the county’s official minutes and were presented to the individuals in attendance.
