Board backs historical highway marker for Edge Hill School; alumni thank supervisors

The King and Queen County Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution on Jan. 9 supporting placement of a Virginia Department of Historic Resources historical highway marker at the site of the former Edge Hill School.
The resolution noted Edge Hill School provided education for Black children in grades 1–7 from 1937 to 1963 and that the Edge Hill School Alumni Association had secured funding and landowner permission to support the marker application. The Board’s resolution asks the Department of Historic Resources to approve and erect the marker at the site; the vote was unanimous.
Lorraine Justice, speaking for the alumni and their families, thanked the Board and County Administrator Vivian Seay for meeting with the association and helping advance the commemoration.
