Board dissolves King and Queen Wireless Authority after fiber deployment

The King and Queen County Board of Supervisors voted March 11 to dissolve the King and Queen County Wireless Authority, concluding the entity’s work now that a countywide Fiber-to-the-Home network has been installed.
County staff, represented at the meeting by Vivian Seay, told the Board that RiverStreet Networks assisted with moving customers off the wireless network, that the county received its last revenue share in January and that all bonds and obligations of the Authority have been paid. "With fiber optic broadband internet service available; the need for the wireless network and governing Authority no longer exists," the resolution states.
Nut graf: The dissolution transfers remaining Authority assets to King and Queen County and requires staff to file appropriate articles of dissolution with the Virginia State Corporation Commission. The Board adopted the resolution unanimously on a motion by Ms. Alsop, seconded by Mr. Berry.
Board members cited the completion of the Fiber-to-the-Home project as the primary reason to end the Authority and instructed staff to take steps to remove network equipment from tower sites and wrap up remaining administrative matters. The motion passed with all five supervisors voting aye.
