Fulton County proclaims March 2026 Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

Fulton County commissioners on Feb. 24 approved a proclamation declaring March 2026 as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, saying the county "becomes a better place when people with and without disabilities come together to form strong, diverse communities." Commissioners signed the proclamation in a brief ceremony attended by local MD/IDD/EI providers, program specialists, residents and family members.
Representatives present included Marissa Hockenberry of Occupational Services Inc.; Erica Ramsey of CRI; Rebecca Weaver, Franklin/Fulton IDD Program Specialist; staff and residents from Full Circle Residence; Lorrie Miller, Lisa Grimes and Wendy Buckwalter of The Arc of Franklin/Fulton Counties; and Logan Crouse, identified as a consumer of The Arc. Human Services Director Julie Dovey and other county staff joined the commissioners for the signing and a group photograph.
The proclamation approved by the board reads in part that the county "proclaims March 2026 as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month and do commend this observance to all of our citizens and recognize that Fulton County becomes a better place when people with and without disabilities come together to form strong, diverse communities, and knowing we are all One World, many Abilities!" Commissioner Hervey P. Hann moved to approve the proclamation and the motion passed unanimously.
The action is a ceremonial recognition aimed at raising awareness and encouraging community inclusion and support for services that assist people with developmental disabilities. Local organizations in attendance may use the proclamation to promote March observances and outreach activities.
