Camp Verde council discusses acquiring pool and skate park parcel from school district, directs staff to refine letter and survey community

Town Manager Miranda Fisher presented a draft response Sept. 11, 2025, to the Camp Verde Unified School District Board about the town’s interest in acquiring a portion of 290 West Apache Trail, the site of the Camp Verde pool and skate park.
Council members said their strong preference is to own the parcel outright, but they remained open to a long-term lease if that is necessary to keep pool access for the community. Council and the School Board both identified the need for an updated Intergovernmental Agreement to govern the property if a transfer or lease proceeds, and staff were asked to reflect that in the correspondence.
Council directed staff to amend the draft letter to provide more precise information on the Town’s financial investment in the pool since it was built and to include cost estimates for potential interim repairs. The council also asked staff to compile a community survey to gather input on where residents would prefer a pool, with suggested site comparisons such as the Sports Complex versus the Heritage Pool site. CIP Manager Smith and Town Manager Miranda Fisher answered council questions during the review.
Councilor Robin Godwin briefly left the meeting at 5:25 p.m. and returned at 5:27 p.m.; no formal vote was taken on the acquisition during the session. The council’s direction was to return a revised letter and community survey for future action or negotiation with the school district.
