Emergency Manager Darrin Lewis and Zoning Administrator Dennise Daniels reviewed the plan update, which identifies hazards affecting Buffalo County and prioritizes mitigation strategies to reduce potential loss of life and property. The resolution cites the Federal Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 and notes that FEMA requires formal adoption by local governing bodies before federal-level approval will be processed.
Commissioner Daniel Lynch moved to adopt the plan; the motion passed unanimously among members present (Resolution 2022-20). The board directed county staff to submit adoption documentation as required to state and federal partners for final approval.
The plan adoption places Buffalo County in line for federal mitigation grant eligibility should the county pursue mitigation projects.
