The Greer County Board of Commissioners met Jan. 26, 2025, and approved a series of routine financial and personnel actions while hearing brief updates from the county’s OSU Extension coordinator and sheriff.
Brent York moved to approve minutes from the Jan. 20, 2026 special meeting; Steven Fite seconded and the motion carried with York, Barnes and Fite recorded as voting aye. The board also approved a transfer of appropriations shifting funds from "Sheriff's Assistance Grant M&O" to "Sheriff's Assistance Grant PS" to cover personnel costs, on a unanimous vote.
By motion, the board met with OSU Extension Coordinator Cheryl Lively, who provided updates on a recent Fair Board meeting and described cleanup activity planned at the county fairgrounds. The board also met with Greer County Sheriff Steve McMahan, who gave updates on countywide crime issues; the minutes note there was no action taken at this meeting on a proposed 80‑bed Law Enforcement Center.
The commissioners approved the issuance of blanket purchase orders and a special payroll to cover a Sheriff's Assistance Grant stipend; both motions passed unanimously. Regular payroll was also approved by the board.
The board approved two appointments: Lori Laughlin was appointed to the Greer County Economic Development Authority Board, and J.W. Smith was appointed to the Greer County Industrial Trust Authority Board. Both appointments passed on unanimous votes.
The minutes record there was no action taken under new business or on roads and bridges. Steven Fite moved to adjourn; Brent York seconded, and the meeting adjourned at 9:39 a.m. The minutes indicate the meeting was called to order by Chairman Mark Barnes at 9:00 a.m. and that advance notice was posted at the courthouse and the commissioners’ office on Jan. 22, 2025. The minutes document shows an approval/attestation line dated Feb. 2, 2026, which creates an internal date note in the record.
