Grant County OKs Fair Board option to create donation account; Fair Board to vote in February

Commissioners voted Dec. 8 to allow the Fair Board to establish a separate account to manage donations and premium-award funds, following guidance from recent Fair Board training. Commissioner Steve Stinson said the training determined the Fair Board can vote to have a separate account to distribute checks for premium awards and donations (private funds). The board approved a motion directing the Fair Board to create the account if it chooses and provide a report to the BOCC on donations collected and distributed; the Fair Board is expected to take that vote in February 2026.
The board also directed that any money collected for rental of the Expo Building should go through the County Treasurer's Office because the BOCC oversees that account. The motion to allow the Fair Board to establish a donations account was moved by Commissioner Steve Stinson, seconded by Commissioner Keith McClure, and carried with unanimous ayes.
The minutes note the Fair Board must formally vote to set up the account and provide periodic reporting to the commissioners.
