Montevallo council accepts bench donation, names delegates and approves local appointments

At its Feb. 9 meeting the Montevallo City Council approved multiple routine actions, including accepting a donation of three benches for Shoal Creek Park, naming voting delegates for the Alabama League of Municipalities annual meeting, and appointing a resident to the Historical Preservation Commission.
Acceptance of donation: Council Member Alyssa Green moved and Council Member Brandelyn Nelson seconded a motion to accept a donation of three park benches from the Alabama Ornithological Society for placement in Shoal Creek Park; the motion passed unanimously. The donation packet included a proposal and photos from Greg D. Jackson (AOS) showing proposed bench sites and requesting that park staff assemble and place the benches after shipment.
Delegates to Alabama League of Municipalities: The council named Council Member Lelia Mitchell as the municipality's voting delegate for the League's annual business meeting, with Council Member Kenneth Dukes as first alternate and Mayor Rusty Nix as second alternate; the authorization form and submission deadline (April 13, 2026) were included in the packet. The motion to appoint delegates was moved by Council Member Kenneth Dukes, seconded by Council Member Lelia Mitchell, and passed unanimously.
Board appointment: Joyce Lewis was appointed to the Historical Preservation Commission with a term to expire Feb. 29, 2029. The motion was made by Council Member Lelia Mitchell, seconded by Council Member Brandelyn Nelson, and approved unanimously.
Other actions: The council approved payment of the city's bills (motion by Council Member Kenneth Dukes, seconded by Council Member Brandelyn Nelson) and agreed to move Finance Committee meetings to the fourth Tuesday of each month at 4:00 p.m. (motion by Council Member Kenneth Dukes, seconded by Council Member Lelia Mitchell); both motions passed on unanimous votes of members present.
