Summary
On Jan. 12 the Montevallo City Council unanimously accepted construction bids including Ken Lindsey Construction for Scout Lodge remodel ($81,300), Central Alabama Asphalt for parking lot paving ($29,250), Steel City Metal for parking lot railing ($63,764), and accepted a $3,000 performance bond for an O’Reilly Auto Parts land disturbance permit.
The Montevallo City Council on Jan. 12 unanimously approved several contracts and accepted a performance bond for a private development project.
Council accepted Ken Lindsey Construction Company’s low bid of $81,300 to remodel the James D. Seaman Scout Lodge; meeting materials list grant and MDCD funding for that project. The motion to accept the Ken Lindsey bid was made by Council Member Brandelyn Nelson and seconded by Council Member Alyssa Green and recorded as all ayes.
Council also awarded a contract to Central Alabama Asphalt & Construction Co. for $29,250 to mill, resurface and restripe a public parking lot at 550 Main Street (MDCD funding). Council approved a $63,764 bid from Steel City Metal, Inc. for installation of metal railing around the same parking lot. Motions to accept the asphalt and railing bids were moved by Council Member David King, seconded by Council Member Lelia Mitchell, and recorded as all ayes.
Separately, the council accepted a $3,000 performance bond from O’Reilly Automotive Stores, Inc. in connection with a land disturbance permit for construction at 4705 Hwy 25. The action was recorded as a motion by Council Member Kenneth Dukes, seconded by Council Member David King, and passed unanimously. Appendix 12 in the meeting packet contains the bond documentation.
Why it matters: The approvals authorize near‑term public‑facing projects (Scout Lodge repairs and downtown parking improvements) and document the city’s permit security for private site work. Meeting materials indicate MDCD funding will be used for several of the Main Street parking improvements.
Next steps: Projects proceed per contract terms and funding availability; procurement and contract documents are filed in the meeting packet (Appendices 9–11).
