Bodek elected chair as Union County board reorganizes; Rebecca Williams named vice chair

Joseph C. Bodek was elected chairman of the Union County Board of County Commissioners and sworn in during the board’s installation and 2026 reorganization meeting on Jan. 1.
NJ Senate President Nicholas P. Scutari administered the Oath of Office to Chairman Joseph C. Bodek after the board unanimously approved his nomination. ‘‘Union County 2026: Honoring the Past, Strengthening Our Tomorrow,’’ Bodek said in his remarks, identifying priorities for the year and promising to build on existing county programs.
The meeting began with an installation ceremony presided over by Assignment Judge Lisa Miralles Walsh and NJ Senate President Scutari. Deputy County Clerk Clara Fernandez read the Certification of Election confirming Joanne Rajoppi’s re-election as Union County Clerk (General Election, Nov. 4, 2025). Administrative Law Judge Carol I. Cohen administered the Oath of Office to County Clerk Joanne Rajoppi; Rajoppi noted her 35 years as County Clerk and 53 years in public service.
The board then conducted the formal reorganization. Commissioner Kimberly Palmieri-Mouded nominated Commissioner Lourdes Leon as Chair Pro-Tem; the motion carried on a roll-call vote of nine in favor. Commissioner Alexander Mirabella nominated Commissioner Joseph C. Bodek to serve as chair; that motion passed on a roll-call vote of nine to zero. Commissioner Stanley J. Neron nominated Commissioner Rebecca L. Williams to serve as vice chair; the nomination was approved unanimously.
Three commissioners who had been certified as elected—Rebecca L. Williams, Joseph Signorello III and Stanley J. Neron—took their oaths earlier in the ceremony. Each offered brief remarks thanking family and supporters and pledging to serve Union County residents.
Clerk of the Board James E. Pellettiere called the reorganization meeting to order at 11:50 a.m., and the board recessed after the reorganizational business and the chairman’s annual message.
