King and Queen supervisors adopt VDOT FY2025–2030 Secondary Road Six‑Year Plan

The King and Queen County Board of Supervisors unanimously adopted the Virginia Department of Transportation FY2025–2030 Secondary Road Six‑Year Plan at its May 13, 2024 meeting.
Lee McKnight, VDOT residency engineer, told the board that a previous public hearing had been held and that, because no changes were proposed to the plan, an additional hearing was not required. The board voted to program available funds toward remaining uncompleted projects from the prior plan rather than add new projects to the 2025–2030 program.
The plan’s adoption follows updated and revised cost estimates for Fiscal Year 2024–2029 projects that, McKnight said, mean many planned projects will need additional funding to construct. Supervisors raised routine maintenance concerns: M.H. Norman asked that overgrown vines and grass on Tastine Road be trimmed, and several members praised the recent paving work at the Rt. 360 and Rt. 721 intersection.
The resolution directs staff to prepare the Secondary Road Improvement budget for fiscal year 2025 in the same priority order as the adopted six‑year plan, within available funds. The motion to adopt the resolution was made by S.C. Alsop and seconded by M.H. Norman; the vote was 5–0.
