Summary
After a brief public hearing with no public comment, the Board approved a boundary adjustment transferring one household to Essex County (Essex will pay related expenses); public comment included a resident request for two deputies and a superintendent presentation of a commemorative plaque.
At a public hearing July 8 the King and Queen County Board of Supervisors approved a boundary adjustment with Essex County that transfers a single household to Essex County. County staff, represented by Ms. Seay, said the change resulted from more accurate GIS mapping that identified the household as physically located in Essex; the affected residents requested the transfer to remain served by Essex County and Essex agreed to cover associated costs. Chairman Simpkins opened the hearing; with no public comment the Board approved the change (motion by Ms. Alsop; seconded by Ms. Billups), vote unanimous.
During the public comment period earlier in the meeting Dr. Carol Carter, School Superintendent, read a resolution honoring former Newtown Supervisor Raymond Alsop and presented a plaque to his daughter, Newtown Supervisor Sherrin Alsop. Resident Brenda Lee of the Stevensville District urged the Board to grant the Sheriff's request for two additional deputies, saying increased patrols had helped control speeding by trash trucks on Devil's Three Jump Road and that additional deputies would provide added safety in the county's lower end. The Board recorded those remarks as part of the public comment period but took no formal vote on staffing at this meeting.
The boundary adjustment was adopted unanimously; Essex County will pay expenses associated with moving the household to its rolls.
