The King and Queen County Board of Supervisors took several routine and contractual actions during its Aug. 12 meeting.
Mr. M.R. Berry moved and the board approved August county warrants and payroll, subject to audit (AYES: J.L. Simpkins, M.R. Berry, M.H. Norman, C.R. Billups; ABSENT: S.C. Alsop). Mr. Berry and Ms. Billups moved and seconded approval of FY2024 accrued accounts payable, subject to audit; that motion also passed with the same recorded ayes and absence.
Ms. Seay requested board approval of an agreement with Berkley Group, LLC, to provide on-call consulting services and to facilitate the board’s retreat. The contract (entered Aug. 12) sets a Sept. 1, 2024 start date and a term through Aug. 31, 2025, includes an annual 3% compensation increase for contract staff assignments, and allows automatic renewal; the board approved the agreement by voice vote with recorded ayes and one absence. The contract names Vivian Seay as the county representative and Andrew D. Williams as Berkley Group’s representative and incorporates procurement provisions required by Virginia law.
The board then moved into a closed meeting under Va. Code § 2.2-3711(A)(8) for legal consultation regarding acquisition of real property in the Stevensville Magisterial District; the motion passed. After the closed meeting the board certified that only matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements were discussed and that no action was taken in closed session; the certification was approved with recorded ayes and one absence.
Those actions complete the board’s recorded approvals for warrants, accrued payables and the Berkley Group agreement during the Aug. 12 meeting.
