The King and Queen County Board of Supervisors unanimously adopted an ordinance June 10 amending King and Queen County Code Sec. 18-32 to clarify the designation of the polling place for the St. Stephen’s Church Election District.
County Administrator Ms. Seay told the board the change is administrative: the building at 396 Newtown Road is no longer part of the Pamunkey Regional Library system and the ordinance language needed updating to match the longstanding use of Marriott School as the polling site. The ordinance text states, “This Ordinance is effective immediately.”
The amendment updates the precinct listing to show Marriott School, 396 Newtown Road, St. Stephen’s Church, VA 23148 as the Clark’s precinct polling place; staff and supervisors said the move clarifies the written code without changing where voters will cast ballots. The motion to adopt was made by Mr. Berry and seconded by Ms. Alsop. Recorded votes were AYES: S.C. Alsop; J.L. Simpkins; M.R. Berry; M.H. Norman; C.R. Billups. NAYS: None.
The ordinance text adopted references the county’s Sec. 18-32 precinct table and includes the Central Absentee Precinct location at the Courts & Administration Building. No public comment was offered on the ordinance at the meeting.
