Commission approves detainee housing contracts, DFA appropriation and organizational chart change

At its Oct. 1 meeting, the Roosevelt County Commission approved several contracts and a multi-year appropriation affecting detention and public-safety staffing.
Commissioners voted to approve an inmate-confinement contract with the County of Santa Fe and a separate contract with Lea County for housing adult and juvenile detainees; both motions passed unanimously. Commissioner Paul Grider moved approval of the inmate-confinement contract with a second by Commissioner Rodney Savage.
The board also approved DFA appropriation 23-ZH5048-71-2 in the amount of $131,250 over three years to hire law enforcement/support positions. Commissioner Grider moved to approve the appropriation and the motion passed by unanimous roll call.
Detention Administrator Shayla Ramsey reported an in-facility count of 58 detainees, including 15 female and 43 male detainees, eight of whom are from out of county. Ramsey provided program updates: billing to Quay County ($15,125) and to CAFB ($625); 11 participants in the MAT program (all receive counseling; eight receive medications); six participants in the GED program; new anger-management and resumed parenting classes; and a completed classroom.
The commission entered executive session at 10:07 a.m. and returned at 10:22 a.m. No action was taken in executive session, but the board approved a revised organizational chart to remove deputy county manager duties from the finance administrator position upon return to open session.
All votes related to contracts and the appropriation were recorded as unanimous.
