Summary
Grand County Motorized Trails Committee set Jan. 31 for ramp work at Hell’s Revenge, scheduled a paint/Rake-and-Ride for Feb. 21 at Sevenmile Rim, and flagged an approximately 800-foot failing buck-and-rail fence at Determination Towers that members want to recommend to BLM for replacement.
The Grand County Motorized Trails Committee scheduled near-term maintenance and stewardship activities at its Jan. 15 meeting, including ramp work at Hell’s Revenge and a paint/Rake-and-Ride event for Sevenmile Rim.
Committee Chair Clif Koontz said work on the ramp at Hell’s Revenge "can be done instead of monthly Rake and Ride" and recorded that a paleontologist will be onsite Jan. 27 to review the area. The ramp work is scheduled for Jan. 31; the committee set a meet time of 10 a.m. at the Hell’s Revenge entrance.
Mark Pope reported a rock fall blocking Buttes and Towers and said Sevenmile Rim needs paint; the paint work is scheduled as a Rake-and-Ride on Feb. 21, meeting at 10 a.m. at Mill Canyon. Mark also described the buck-and-rail fencing at Determination Towers as "collapsing. It is approximately 800 feet long comprised of 16 foot sections," and recommended developing a replacement plan and bringing the item to the February agenda for a formal recommendation to BLM.
Red Rock 4-Wheelers reported BLM approval for rock work on Lockhart Basin Road (after Chicken Corners) and plans to schedule that work when staff returns. The group also plans a stewardship project on Fins timed with Easter Jeep Safari.
The committee confirmed additional dates for singletrack work (March 7) and other Rake-and-Ride events during the busy season. The meeting adjourned at 3:02 p.m.; members noted the March meeting will be held March 5.
